Temperature

Average daily temperatures recorded at Srinagar over the period 1951 – 1980 are shown in the Figure left. The hottest months are June, July and August, but temperatures rarely exceed 30 degrees Celsius.

There is a distinct seasonal effect, with winter temperatures dropping to a daily maximum of <10 degrees. Night temperatures during winter drop to slightly below freezing.

Rainfall

Average monthly rainfall data for the same period at Srinagar are shown on the Figure right. The wettest months are in the spring and early summer; September and October are amongst the driest months.

Total rainfall for the year is typically 675mm. This is quite sufficient for growing grapes and the dry autumn months facilitate a successful harvest.
